The Tudor Trail at the Museum of Welsh Life - Saint Fagans

We visited St. Teilo’s church, and listened to a story about Saint David. We were very impressed with the paintings inside the church.

Sara Huws was the lady in the church. Sara told us that some of the paintings were actually found inside the church’s walls!

They were used to tell the congregation about the stories from the Bible.

This painting shows saint Christopher, the Patron Saint of Travellers, carrying Jesus safely across the river. His staff has sprouted leaves.

The congregation believed that the paintings themselves were holy and would often kiss the feet of Saint Christopher when they entered the church.

The paintings were full of symbols used to help remember and retell stories. The symbols are very important to the church.

This painting is of Jesus as King of the World, it bears a striking resemblance to Henry VIII. We believe this is to show the divinity of the king. And as you can see there are two Tudor roses on each side of him.

Call My Bluff

We visited a Hendre’r Ywydd Uchaf. Our teacher gave us artefacts to look at. In our groups we discussed two possible uses for the artefacts. (Our teacher then whispered the correct use and gave us tips on presentation). We played a game of Call My Bluff. We showed the class our artefact and then described two alternative names and uses. The rest of the class had to vote on which was the correct use.
