Introduction

This term Class 5 have been studying life in Tudor Wales and Britain.

We have learned much about the period as well as developing our historical skills. We have conducted our own research using both primary and secondary sources.

We visited the National Museum and found out about the symbolism in Tudor portraits. We also visited the Museum of Welsh Life at Saint Fagans, where we studied the buildings and examined artefacts. We paid particular attention to the Welsh dimension i.e. Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, who later became Henry VII was born at Pembroke castle, making him a welshman. We also decided to pay attention to Tudor life within Wales.

Paired pupils undertook research into a particular aspect of Tudor life and produced a newspaper page devoted to that subject. Each page contained articles, drawings, clipart and sometimes wordsearches and games. These were then displayed in our class.

In addition pupils were encouraged to write an article about their research topic, this was to be published here on the school website.

The brief for this was to disseminate their research to a wider audience and to assume that their audience had no prior knowledge of this period in history.
