Tudor Games

Archery

After church, men aged 24 and above were expected to practise and shoot a range of 200 yards.  They used longbows and crossbows.  The easiest bow to use was the longbow.

Football

One of their favourite sports was football.  They played competitions against different villages and had lots of injuries because there was no referee present.

Bowling

Again, this was very popular because some villages had bowling alleys.  It was very primitive compared to our “Bowlplex”.

Hunting

All people who lived in the countryside enjoyed hunting for foxes, rabbits and deer.  They also enjoyed fishing and falconry.

Jousting

King Henry enjoyed taking part in jousting.  It usually took place in the Kings quarters with lots of people watching.

Cup and Ball

Children played cup and ball.  It was usually the best of 3 goes trying to place the ball in the cup.

Tick, Tac, Toe

This game was very much like noughts and crosses but you used marbles instead.
